Imagination: The driving force of the mind

Who does not like to get lost in the realm of fantasy. Who is there who does not sometimes lose himself in sky-yellow fantasy? The number of people who have a bad reputation for being imaginative is not small. It can be said that the number of boys and girls who did not eat their parents’ cheek while reading and got lost in fantasy is very few. Imagination as a quality is totally neglected in our society. Imagination is considered a taboo subject in our society. Fantasy and sky are seen together but fantasy is the main basis of the progress of human civilization today. If man could not imagine, he could not create, make, invent anything. Art, literature, science would all fall flat. So the scientist Einstein said, ‘Imagination is more important than knowledge.’

Define imagination?

The definition of imagination in the dictionary is the ability to create mental images. The process of forming a mental image of something even though it is not present in front of the eye; The mental ability to recreate images from memory, the mind’s ability to recreate. Whatever the meaning of imagination in the dictionary – imagination is the arch of reality in our real life. We can do whatever we want, be whatever we want because we have imagination.

How to imagine life in general?

Our objective life is also largely influenced by imagination or visions or images. A chemist uses imagery to see how chemical molecules are connected to one another. A fashion designer imagines how a model would look before making a garment. An artist’s picture comes entirely from imagination. A theoretical physicist develops hypothetical models to understand the world of subatomic particles.

Illusions are also used to determine chess strategy. Transport officials imagine how to move something from one place to another and install it in advance. A successful doctor imagines the whole scene before operating on the patient.

What did Dr. Carl Gustav Young say about imagination?

So Dr. Carl Gustav Young said, ‘Our debt to imagination is never to be repaid.’ A mental image is actually a picture created by the mind in imitation of an object or subject. In the world of your imagination, you can see, hear, smell, taste and feel things that are not actually in front of you. You can picture a marigold flower or a rose flower perfectly in your imagination without holding it in your hand. Apart from matter or substance, mental images can describe freedom, liberation, beauty or joy.

How is the power of imagination?

The ability to create mental images varies from person to person. For example, Nikola Tesla, the inventor of the AC generator and the fluorescent lamp, had a remarkable ability to create mental images. He regularly saw in his mind’s eye three-dimensional images of all the complex machinery. The machines are detailed and clear as blueprints.

The most surprising thing is that Tesla used to test the performance of these devices in his mind. He would run it in his mind for a few weeks to check if its parts were working properly. The scientist Tesla, however, was an exceptionally gifted illustrator. The picture in his mind was as bright as the picture in his eyes. Only one with a photographic memory can create such vivid images. Anyone with a photographic memory can glance at a page of a newspaper for a few seconds, turn their eyes back, and recall the entire page. Their mental image is also perfect and lasting.

Why is imagination more important than knowledge?

As we know, imagination is more important than knowledge. Now see how much you can visualize! Is the image created in your mind clear and permanent, or vague and fleeting? Is the image three-dimensional real or flat like a television picture?

What color do you see clearly? Does your photo come in black and white? The ability to visualize varies from person to person, with some seeing perfectly three-dimensional images. Some people don’t see any pictures at all. Some think through pictures. Some people do not see anything in their mind’s eye, they only speak in their mind.

Psychologists divide the ability to visualize into two categories. First, clarity. That is, how bright, clear and vivid the image is. Second, stability. That is, how stable and certain the image is. And both are related to each other. By adding clarity, your images will be colorful, three-dimensional and realistic. If you can add stability, it will be stable and definite. Psychologist Francis Galton developed a questionnaire to test clarity of imagination. By answering these questions, you can also check your ability to create images in your mind.

Practice: Banquet

Spend 2 minutes imagining the scene. You went to someone’s house to eat. Visualize the guests at the dining table, visualize the environment, the table setting, the taste of the food and the sounds you hear. Make each picture separately in two minutes. Now write the answers to the following questions on the basis of the picture created in your mind-

1. Is your picture clear or unclear?

2. Was the image brighter or darker than the original scene?

3. Wasn’t the whole scene simultaneously precise, with some parts clearer than others?

4. Was the picture not in color but in shades of black and white?

5. If the picture was colored, was the color mixture correct?

6. Were you able to make a complete picture of the entire dining room?

7. Were you able to hold the picture of your plate of food the same way? If so, did the brightness of the plate increase?

8. Did you see the plate of food and the person sitting across from you at the same time?

9. Did you smell the food?

10. Were you able to identify everyone’s clothes?

How are you feeling after exercise?

Perhaps part of your fiction was clear. And parts are unclear. Maybe you have clearly seen the faces of the guests, but have forgotten the type of party favors. Smelled the food, but could not taste it. Or simply conveyed the idea to himself without seeing any image of the invitation.

No matter how clear the picture in our mind, the picture in our mind is rarely accurate. Try to draw a picture of something familiar every day, then you will realize how much the gap is in the picture of your mind!

How deeply you have seen and analyzed the main object, will depend on the ability to make pictures in your mind. If you want to visualize something clearly at a later time, you should look at it in detail. Ask yourself, what am I actually seeing? Take a few moments to see its full shape. How bright or dark is it? How do you feel about the shape?

Does this object remind you of anything else? Now look at the object divided into parts. Try to understand the specialty of each part. Look at it from different perspectives. Once you see that you have a clear idea and feeling about the object. The more you see something, the more you know it, the more easily you can create a picture of it in your mind.

Want to create a clear picture of something in mind?

First get your analyzable knowledge out of memory. Let the picture develop in front of you. It may seem difficult at first if you are not used to visualizing. But if you give yourself time to visualize, you will see bright and steady images forming before your mind’s eye.

The importance of mental images

You may ask – why are you giving so much importance on visualizing for self development, mind control, creative application of mind power? The answer is the importance of visualizing after relaxation to harness the power of the mind. Because the goal you can clearly visualize, you will be able to achieve it. Even when there is a conflict between willpower and mental image, mental image wins. Because the image we present to our mind affects our mind, emotions and body and our whole being.

The importance of visualizing

One of the reasons for the importance of visualization is that our feelings are deeply tied to mental images. Our emotions respond to images in the mind (such as a picture of a mother, a picture of a child, a picture of the opposite sex, a picture of a friend) as if the person in the picture were in front.

So we see images of houses or offices, friends or family members, happiness, sadness, memories and expectations in our mind’s eye all day long. And our view of life is inextricably linked with this picture. Therefore, we can change our outlook on life with mental pictures, we can lead life on the path of success. And many did.

For example, Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner kept a hurdle in his drawing room for four years. Whenever he came and sat on the sofa, he would look at this hurdle and jump over the hurdle in his imagination. Before hitting the golf ball, golfer Jack Nicklaus used to watch a mental video of where and how he wanted to hit the ball. This image of Kalpana has played an important role in the excellence of their personal skills.

What is the way to increase the ability to visualize?

Practice creating mental images regularly to increase your ability to visualize. Try to visualize what you see with your eyes. Visualize anything that catches your attention, such as familiar faces, clothes, houses, cars, parks, flowers, neem trees, pens, pencils, wall pictures, graffiti, monograms, book covers. Pay more attention to everything around you. Visualizing everyday things you see or use can give you a deeper understanding of what’s going on around you. Your sense of reality will deepen.

To increase the power of imagination

Think of yourself as a film or theater director for a while every day. While reading a story in a book, take a moment to turn the events into pictures. Visualize the setting, characters and action. See, the whole thing is happening right in front of you. Visualize what is happening in the news while reading a news in the newspaper. When a leader speaks, listen to the speech in your mind’s ear. As you read about the storm, imagine what would happen if you were caught in the storm. Reading news about launch sinking, visualize yourself in a sinking launch. You will be surprised to see the increase in your ability to remember what you read.

By constantly trying to visualize in everyday life, your ability to create images will increase. Sometimes the images will seem to come slowly, sometimes they will come in bits and pieces. Sometimes the images will come spontaneously, simultaneously in brilliant colors, seeming to be very real and alive. You will get a new taste of perception. Train your imagination to instantly create a carbon copy of everything you see, hear, touch, smell, taste. You should remember that the main goal of your visualization practice is to create clear ‘pictures’. And once you can create a clear ‘mental picture’ you can use your subconscious mind to achieve any goal like Aladdin’s monster.
